Democracy is both locally here in Mannheim and globally a sign of freedom of expression, mutual acceptance, respect and above all commonality. Globally, we are currently experiencing a change: populism, fake news and supposedly simple solutions for complex problems are leading to a threat to democracies and thus also to democratic values for a common life in diversity and respect.
With over 140 European member cities, EUROCITIES is the largest European city network in Europe. The Urban Agenda Working Group deals with the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Cities adopted by the United Nations. In particular, cities exchange best practices and experiences in implementation with projects on the way to sustainable cities, develop joint solutions and formulate demands and feedback to the European Commission. Topics such as sustainable mobility, poverty reduction, housing for all and urban greening are the basis for the work.
