Glasgow residents are being offered a simpler way to find local health and support services online during the corona lockdown. A collaboration between NHS 24, Macmillan Cancer Support and the Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland, the digital service will collate local quality-assured health and care services in one website, called Scotland’s Services Directory.
The directory is being made available on NHS Inform, Scotland’s national health information website.
Macmillan@Glasgow Libraries is now live on Scotland’s Service Directory, along with the ‘Click To Be Contacted’ functionality. This new function allows professionals to instantly refer people affected by cancer into the support and information service.
Using this function, the team will respond within two working days with cancer support, information or simply to talk. People who are affected by cancer can also self-refer, providing their details and indicating their preferred method of contact.

In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, Glasgow Libraries and Macmillan Cancer Support has replaced face-to-face contact with virtual support. Thanks to the hard work of its staff and partners, Glasgow Life, NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde and Glasgow City Council; the team are offering emotional, financial and practical support both online and over the phone.
Finding out that you or someone close to you has cancer can be a difficult and confusing time. Macmillan@GlasgowLibraries offer a free and confidential support service where anyone affected by cancer can get emotional support and high-quality cancer information.
Macmillan has a range of support services available in the city.
Improving the Cancer Journey sends everyone newly diagnosed with cancer in Glasgow a letter offering them an assessment of all their support needs, from how to claim benefits to emotional support. Everyone who responds is given a one-to-one support worker who helps them access all the support they need, from other Macmillan services, other charities or organisations.
All the services can be reached by calling 0141 287 2903 (9am-5pm) or emailing email@example.com . The Macmillan Support Line, mainly staffed by Glasgow-based nurses, can help with clinical, practical and financial information on 0808 808 0000. The line is open seven days a week from 9am-5pm.
Information on cancer and coronavirus is available on Macmillan’s website at macmillan.org.uk. Peer support is also available from Macmillan’s online community at community.macmillan.org.uk. Open 24-hours a day, the online community lets people with cancer and their loved ones talk to others in similar situations.
